Apparently each user only uses a small percentage of the features in Word, but everyone uses different set of features so they can't remove anything without pissing people off. I wonder what percentage of users regularly take advantage of every feature. And what stops their brain from exploding?

The complexity of the direct manipulation interface is the reason they made the Office Assistant in the first place. Besides, I think the Office Assistant was a good idea :P
